Some more tips to see if you need your boiler fixed

Is your home not heating up? Are your bills higher than usual? Do you need to get your boiler fixed?

Sometimes it’s hard to tell if your boiler is working correctly or not. Many people just presume their house is difficult to heat or that their boiler problems are normal. Although there are certain signs to look out for to see if you need your boiler fixed.

See below some of our top tips to see if you need your boiler fixed.

Difficult to heat your home

It takes longer and costs more money to heat a home with a low grade boiler but if you have a high grade boiler or suddenly it has become more difficult to heat your home, you may need your boiler fixed.

It is also a red flag if there are cold spots in your central heating system and radiators. You could have a poorly functioning boiler or a blocked central heating system.

Hot water and heating

If you notice when you put on both your heating and hot water but only one or the other is working, then you probably need your boiler fixed.

This may be a simple problem that is either down to the settings on your boiler and central heating system or because of a component with your boiler. This could be because your motorised diverter valve is broken, if this is the case, you should get a professional to replace the valve.

Boiler keeps switching itself off

Often when your boiler keeps switching itself off it means your boiler is not working correctly. Your boiler could have low water pressure, a problem with the thermostat or a lack of water flow due to a closed valve, air or the pump not circulating the water in the system properly.

Hearing strange sounds

If your radiator, boiler or pipes are making strange hissing or gurgling sounds, then it is time to get it checked. Your central heating system needs to be cleaned out from time to time and these noises might indicate they just need a power flushing but it can also be caused by air in the system, water pressure is too low or it’s kettling.

Imminent pump failure, particularly in older systems, could also be the possible problem. Either way it is a sign you need your boiler fixed.

Ramor Renewables were delighted to be able to help out with Charity Cycle for a very worthy charity

Martin Hopkins Memorial Cycle Raises €34,530 For CARE Cancer Support Centre

On the 30th of November 2019 the charity handed over a cheque for €34,530 to CARE Cancer Support in Clonmel.

A one day charity cycle in the name of former guard Martin Hopkins has raised €34,530 for vital cancer support services in Tipperary. Martin Hopkins who passed away from pancreatic cancer in November 2018 at the age of 41 was honoured by the huge wave of pink & blue clad cyclists who took to the road between his home town of Virginia, Co. Cavan and his family home, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary ‪on 10th August this year.‬

The 238km challenge was undertaken in wet and windy conditions, but having set off from Cavan ‪at 7am‬ that morning over 114 cyclists entered Clonmel by ‪6pm‬ that evening. They were greeted into Clonmel on their bikes by Martin’s wife Karen, and children Sebastian (10) and Seonadh (7) with support from daughter Sadhbh (3), before heading on to Barlo Motor Group where they were met by a large number of family and friends who had turned out to cheer the group home. A total of €34,530 was raised on the day for CARE Cancer Services Tipperary and presented to the charity at an event in Barlos, Clonmel today.

Deirdre Barry of CARE Clonmel, said: “The staff and volunteers at CARE are privileged to have met Martin who was such a kind and gentle person and always greeted us with a smile at CARE. We are extremely grateful to his family that they chose us as worthy recipients when honouring Martin’s memory. The money raised will help in offering our services free of charge to families in South Tipperary affected by cancer, and also to incorporate an extra treatment room into the centre at 14 Wellington St., Clonmel.”

Speaking at the event cycle organiser and former colleague of Martin’s Superintendent Willie Leahy expressed his delight at the total of the funds raised on the day and thanked everyone who played their part in making the day such a huge success:

“This was a mammoth undertaking and our focus on the day was ensuring that we had a safe and successful event, which was also really good fun and a positive way to remember and honour a much missed friend and colleague. Even though this was a very gruelling challenge, the atmosphere on the day was absolutely electric and our thanks firstly to all those who participated, and raised funds, and made the event so memorable. I thought initially this would involve about 30 cyclists but the level of interest exceeded our expectations and made this such a memorable occasion. It would not have been possible without the help and support of so many people and I want to acknowledge the immense work behind the scenes by the organising committee; Nancy & Niall Cox, Garda Willie Fitzharris, Niall McHugo and Kristian Brown of Clonmel Cycling Club.

A big thanks also for the support of people on the day including Clonmel & Slievenamon Cycling Club Members, a number of off duty paramedics and members of the Garda Motorbike Unit, Order of Malta, Keith Matthews and all those who helped with food stops, McEvoys Supervalu, Tom Skinny Pizzas, Mai’s Café, the Riverfront Hotel, Hewitts Bakery & Hanora’s Cottage, those who provided support vehicles and in particular lead car driver PJ Keyes – a pure pro at this stage – and Virginia Couriers & Jamie Lawlor Crash Repairs. To those who made our food stops possible including Aoife Marron & Tullamore GAA Club and Sgt Greg Baker & Templemore Garda Station, as well as Virginia Show Centre for facilitating sandwich making the night before and Ramor Utd for the use of the hall and the great send-off. We are also grateful to Irene Lawlor & John Ward for support with PR, photographer Naoise Culhane, media outlets who promoted and supported the event and the wider community for sponsoring our cyclists. We also finally want to thank the public for their understanding and patience with us over the 238km cycle.

We are very grateful for the very many generous sponsorship from businesses and private individuals in Virginia and Clonmel who made the event possible: Barlo Motor Group, Adam and Kate Dagnall, Ramor Renewables, The Crescent Stores, Gene and Marian Clancy, Greenbelt, Romor Energy, Ronan O’Reilly ROR, Verge Sport Ireland, Clonmel Cycling Club, O’Sullivan Insurances, Matthew’s Bar Virginia, Kellykeen Stables, Fleetwood Paints, McEvoys Supervalu Virginia, Riverfront Hotel, Skellys B&B, Permanent TSB Clonmel, Carey’s Bar Clonmel, Clonmel Park Hotel, Hotel Minella, Jamie Lawlor Crash Repairs, John O’Donoghue & Sons, Drury Porter Noveilli, Ciarán Redmond, Karen’s Cakes, Eldon’s Bar, Slivenamon Cycling Club, The Cyclologist, Martin’s Fruit & Veg, John Farrelly Massage Therapy Virginia and Feel Good Bicycles Virginia.

Acknowledging how much this event meant to all the family, his wife Karen Ferris said: “We are absolutely thrilled that over €34,000 has been raised for CARE Clonmel. This is a fantastic service that provides really vital support at a vulnerable time for people. Unfortunately we now know the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis on families. But we are very proud of this positive legacy in Martin’s name which will hopefully make a difference to other people going through a similar situation. We are so appreciative of everyone who made this possible and all those who contributed in any small way and all of those who participated. Martin himself would have absolutely loved the cycle and no doubt but he was looking down on us on the day. It was a very special way to remember him and a big thanks to everyone involved.”
