Are you working from home at the moment?

Make sure your heating is performing efficiently so that you are as comfortable as possible.

Having no heating while you are trying to work from home during the winter period is no fun. As the weather turns colder get your boiler serviced and give your central heating system the once over.

If you are working from home and noticing that your heating is not performing as it should, radiators are not heating fully, the system is making strange noises or if your boiler is more than 10 years old. It may be time to invest in a new boiler.

At replace boiler we service, replace and install both oil and gas boilers. We also offer a central heating power flush cleanse. This cleanse will break down any build-up of sludge and iron oxide that have built up within your heating system, ensuring your system is in top condition.

Working from home by default means you are in your home during the day for longer periods than usual and will need to use your heating as a result. This will undoubtedly result in an increase in energy bills. But there are ways to reduce this increase and use your system more efficiently. Install heating controls or zoned heating as it is sometimes known.

Using heating controls can reduce your heating bills by up to 20% by improving your energy efficiency. They can also help you reduce your carbon footprint, by reducing your emissions. Heating controls allow you to control the temperature in areas or zones of your home.

As a minimum, heating systems should be split into two independently controlled zones. They are your ‘Space Heating Zone’ and your ‘Domestic Hot Water Zone’. This allows you to heat your domestic hot water without being forced to turn on your space heating. Additional zones can also be put in place in large homes to split upstairs and downstairs or living areas and bedrooms. This then allows you to only turn the heating on in whatever area of the house you are using, for example upstairs while you are working.

You can go even further and install a smart system such as Honeywell. This system allows you to control up to 12 zones on your heating using an app on your mobile phone. Heating controls also allow you to plan your usage over a 7 day week and even allow you to switch to holiday mode when you are away from home.

To make it easier to upgrade the SEAI better homes grant scheme now provides a grant for adding or upgrading heating controls. For a full guide to all grants available when upgrading your heating click here.
